Effectiveness vs. Efficiency

Do you work in a company or organization that is generally effective, but moves slowly and inefficiently in it’s processes?

Conversely, do  you find that the company you work for is very efficient at doing ineffective things?

Before we start a project or initiate organizational change, we had better define success. If success means more widgets sold, then we can measure effectiveness pretty easily. In the social sector, success could mean more services rendered over time.

Without a clear pipeline (in this order) of:

VALUES -> VISION -> MISSION -> STRATEGIC GOALS -> DAILY ACTIVITIES

…we may be efficiently hiking to the peak of the wrong mountain.
